Work Experience

Work Experience

Work experience plays a key role in promoting students' personal and social development, enhancing their maturity and helping them to develop an understanding of the world of work. Work experience placements are a core feature of the work related learning opportunities at South Nottinghamshire Academy and all students have the opportunity to take part in work experience in Year 10.

Our work experience programme involves a wide variety of business and organisations i.e. large, medium and small, local and international, private and public sectors. Well known participating organisations include: Notts County Football Club, Barclays Bank, Volkswagen, Inchcape Toyota, Nottinghamshire County Council, British Telecom, Rushcliffe Borough Council, Harts Hotel and Restaurant, Theatre Royal, County Court, East Midlands Development Agency. In addition, hundreds of local business are involved from hairdressers to greengrocers and estate agents to building contractors.

Work Experience

The school tries to ensure that the student and participating organisation is a good match, taking account of interests, skills, travel arrangements etc. The school’s Work Related Learning Coordinator works closely with all participating organisations and interviews each student to work out the most suitable placement for them. All placements are health & safety and risk assessed prior to the student attending the placement and evaluation visits are carried out during the placement to check progress.
