Young people use the internet for an increasing number of tasks and as time progresses from an increasingly younger age. The internet is a fantastic resource with which people can communicate, socialise, research and shop among many other things. With this increased usage comes some risk as students can experience issues and situations that they may not have faced.

In order to prepare students for life in an increasingly digital world having an understanding of E safety is crucial.  This page contains information that will provide you as a parent with information about E safety and the related issues that you should be aware of.

This information will provide you with some ideas as to what conversations to have at home about E safety and what you can do in order to manage your child`s access to the internet and other digital devices.

Curriculum Focus

Due to the importance of E-safety in the lives of young people we also have a focus on this as part our curriculum ICT lessons.

Topics covered in curriculum lessons will include:

Passwords and Password Security.

Health and safety in a computer room.

Cyber bullying.

Your digital footprint.

Social networks - security settings (Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat) how to be safe.

The reliability of data.

Also outside of lessons students will be part of a PSHE program that will include topics on Grooming, Sexting, Cyber Bullying among others. This PSHE program will extend out of PSHE lessons and also involve discussion topics that students will have during tutor time about current events and news stories.

The aim of this part of the school curriculum is to provide students with a thorough program around this topic with the opportunity to discuss and find out about the issues involved in a number of ways. The topics and content that we include will also be reviewed on an annual basis with consultation with students and parents being used to update and improve the content.

The websites below offer help and advice on how to prevent, spot or discuss the listed prominent online issues.
