Primary to Secondary Transition

The transition from Primary to Secondary school is one of the most daunting prospects for parents. Have you made the right decision? Will your child successfully adapt to the new school? Will they make new friends?

We understand that it can be a very worrying time and try to make this transition as smooth and concern free as possible. Continuity is one of the key ways in which the transition to secondary school can be made much easier. We work as a close knit team with our family of schools, so children will already be familiar with many of the South Nottinghamshire Academy teachers and students who regularly visit primary schools and organise joint activities. Likewise, children in our feeder primary schools will also have been to South Nottinghamshire Academy on several occasions to get involved in a variety of events and activities. Emma McCabe is our dedicated Transition Manager who regularly liaises with our family of schools to plan and organise transition activities and meets with parents to discuss any concerns or answer any questions they may have.

Below is a list of some the many transition activities taking place within our family of schools:

  • Maths workshops.
  • One World Week - a week of lessons at Cotgrave Futures, showcasing specialist teaching by staff from South Nottinghamshire Academy based around our global links.
  • ‘Bright Sparks’ science academy for gifted and talented Year 5 pupils.
  • Art projects.
  • Year 6 poetry competition.
