Talent & Gifted

South Nottinghamshire Academy has a Gifted and Talented Programme that is held in high regard throughout the County and Nationally. Staff at South Nottinghamshire Academy have worked closely with Loughborough University over the last 10 years to ensure all athletes competing at a high level in their chosen sport are supported in school and reach their academic potential as far as reasonably possible with their training and performing commitments.

All students at South Nottinghamshire Academy and in Year 6 of their feeder schools are assessed and those that fulfil a certain criteria are put onto a Gifted and Talented register. South Nottinghamshire Academy’s Gifted and Talented policy, endorsed by governors and staff, is reviewed annually and regarded as good practice.

South Nottinghamshire Academy hosted members of the English Table Tennis Academy's world class performance squad from 1997 - 2003. As a result of the high standards of support and quality of the programme South Nottinghamshire Academy formed a link with Midlands Tennis. The school provides an education package for some of their elite performers so that they can train full time as well as follow an academic programme. Many of the lessons learned during the school’s work with the English Table Tennis Association have been put into practice.

More recently the school has furthered its links with Sport England working closely with the National Elite programme hosted at Holme Pierrepoint. This has seen the school accommodate a host of young Olympic hopefuls as they endeavour to strive towards London 2012. The school offers an extensive network of support to ensure each athlete has the best possible opportunity to succeed in all aspects of their lives either on the water or in the classroom. Despite being in its infancy, this partnership is already proving a success with one student recently returning from the Youth Games in Australia having come 4th in the K1 Slalom Final.
