Consultation for Admissions 2026-2027
Period of consultation: 11th November 2024 to 20th December 2024
South Nottinghamshire Academy invites you to give your views about the proposed admission arrangements for 2026-2027
Any responses to this consultation should be sent to s.murphy@snacademy.org.uk
As an academy, we are our ‘own admission authority’. This means as a school we are responsible for running our own consultation on any proposed changes. For 2026-2027 we’d like to propose a change to our admission arrangements, specifically our oversubscription criteria.
All schools must have admission arrangements that clearly set out how children will be admitted including information about what happens if there are more applications than places available
(oversubscription criteria). All admission authorities must include the oversubscription criteria in their arrangements. The criteria must be reasonable, clear, objective, procedurally fair, and comply with all relevant legislation, including equalities legislation. We believe these changes to the criteria are most suitable for the school according to the local circumstances.
We have a defined catchment area for South Nottinghamshire Academy, which means children living in these areas have higher priority for places than children outside the catchment. The address point (using eastings and northings as defined by Ordnance Survey) will be the point used to determine if the property falls within a specific catchment area. Details of catchment areas are available at www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/education/school-admissions/school-catchment-areas
This does not prevent parents who live outside the catchment area of a school, or even outside Nottinghamshire, from expressing a preference for that school.

Children living in the catchment area with a brother or sister (sibling) attending the school are given priority over other children living inside the catchment area. Children living outside the catchment area with a brother or sister attending the school are given priority over all other children living outside the catchment area.
What is included in the consultation?
The consultation includes a change to our oversubscription criteria outlined in our admissions policy.
Where the number of applications for admission exceeds the number of places available, the criteria will be applied in the order set out below to decide which children to admit. Once places have first been allocated to pupils who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) which names the Academy, the criteria will be implemented.
Previously, the oversubscription criteria applied a 7-point criterion. The first point remains the same giving priority to those who are looked after or previously looked after children, including those children who appear to the admissions authority to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted, (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order).
The change involves implementing a 10-point criterion that goes on to discuss the priority of those with siblings attending the academy, those attending our 3 linked primary schools (Radcliffe on Trent Junior School, Cotgrave Candleby Lane School, Cotgrave Church of England School), those in the catchment area, children of employees at the academy and those outside of the catchment area. For full details on the changes, please see the proposed oversubscription criteria in the admissions policy below (2026-2027) and compare with the previous admissions policy (2024-2025) also below.
This is a proposed admissions policy for admission arrangements in 2026-2027. This will not affect 2025-2026 admission arrangements.
